Freshwater pearls are produced in rivers and lakes, most
of production today comes from China where is better technology
and cultivation methods have been developed. With low labor
costs, China can produce less expensive pearls which offer
many different beautiful natural colors such as light, medium
and dark orange, lavender and rose gray . Custom colors are
found in yellow gold, olive green, gold, gray, blue and bronze.
Freshwater pearls have mostly no nucleus, they are totally
nacre. It takes one to two years to produce. 10 years ago
most of the pearls where of rice shape, wrinkled and of rather
small size but today we found beautiful pearls up to 10 mm
and in very rare cases even bigger. The bigger they are in
size the lower quantities are available in good qualities.
Qualified freshwater pearls are specified by luster, smoothness,
size and shape. |
