FAQ
What is Freshwater Pearls? Is it Real?

Freshwater pearls are a type of real pearl that are grown in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds, mostly in China. Unlike saltwater pearls, which are cultivated in oysters found in the ocean, freshwater pearls come from a different type of mussel that lives in non-salty water. These pearls are formed when a small piece of tissue is inserted into the mussel, which then starts producing layers of nacre — the same material that makes up all pearls.

Yes, freshwater pearls are 100% real. They are not synthetic or imitation pearls, but natural gems that form inside living mussels over time. The main difference between freshwater and saltwater pearls lies in their origin, shape, luster, and sometimes durability — but both are considered genuine pearls.

Freshwater pearls are often more affordable than saltwater pearls, mainly because one mussel can produce multiple pearls at once. They also come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and natural pastel colors, which makes them a popular choice for jewelry lovers.
